tmux for the AI-agent era: your coding agents keep running when you disconnect — and you can see who's blocked at a glance.
you run Claude Code in one tab, Codex in another, soon you have five tabs. some agents are waiting for your input, but you can't tell which without clicking through every tab. and if your SSH connection dies, everything dies with it.
# 1. install (linux / macOS) curl -fsSL https://herdr.dev/install.sh | sh # or: brew install herdr # 2. cd into your project and start it herdr # 3. run your agents in panes claude # herdr auto-detects it; sidebar shows its state # 4. walk away / connection dies / laptop closed Ctrl-b q # detach — or just close the terminal # 5. come back herdr # reattaches; everything still running
Ctrl-b is the prefix, same as tmux: press Ctrl-b, release, then the action key. panes live in a background server, so they survive detach and disconnect.
every agent shows one of these states, rolled up per workspace:
| working | agent is busy — leave it alone |
| blocked | waiting for YOUR input — go answer it |
| done | finished — review the result |
| idle | nothing happening |
| herdr | start or reattach |
| Ctrl-b q | detach (everything keeps running) |
| Ctrl-b ? | show all active keybindings |
| herdr integration install claude | better state detection per agent |
| herdr server stop | actually stop everything |
| herdr update | update herdr itself |
no keybindings strictly needed — herdr is mouse-first: click panes, drag borders, right-click for menus.
